5Essential - One of the Greatest Albums EVER  Aug 26, 2009
From the opening song "Them Bones" to the finally, "Would", it's pure ear candy. An essential album for all who appreciate either Grunge, Metal, AIC, or those rare standout musical works that just wear better and better over time. I wish the same could be said for today's music, but at least it'll be soon forgotten. It's also why I no longer listen to the radio.

The music industry did little in the way of promoting this group compared to the way they push today's trash down the throats of the masses, so don't be surprised if you come to believe you must've been sleeping under a rock when this music was first released.
I also recommend "Unplugged", "Facelift", and "Jar of Flies" to quadruple your pleasure. You'll thank me later.

4Grunge to the core  Aug 21, 2009
I used to have this album. I didn't quite find it as heavy as "Facelift" was, but it still had the muddy grunge sound to it. I came to this conclusion after hearing "Them Bones", and from there it just kept at an even keel. Some of the highlights are: "Down In The Hole", "Junkhead", "Would" and "Angry Chair". The song "Rooster" is a person tribute to Jerry Cantrell's father who was a Vietnam Vet, and apparently had the nickname "Rooster". I want to acknowledge this first before I say it was the worst song on this album. I don't really go for depressing songs, and this one is depressing. I feel that this one put Alice In Chains on the map as their next release "A Jar Full Of Flies" would go to number 1. With "Dirt" it sounds like what Corrosion Of Conformity's 1994 album would sound like, and it has Sabbath riffs reeking all over it, so you get the best of both worlds.

4This is ridiculous....  Aug 07, 2009
Alice in Chains, the first and best band in the genre of now deceased grunge music, released "Dirt" in 1992 in which is one of my personal favorites. This is another review for other idiots...Ok. First of all, why would somebody review this album and say that the music sucks because its droopy, slow or sad? The genre of this band is "grunge". Hince the word grunge, this genre is a slow, hypnotizing, somber side of metal that was very popular in the 90s with bands like AIC, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. Second of all, if you dont like slow, grungy music, then dont listen to Alice in Chains if you know thats their type of music. Third of all, this band is far more talented and heavy than any of the afore mentioned bands, all of which i am a fan of. Why do you review this album if you dont like grunge music? Youre an idiot. Youre wasting your time listening to something you know you wont like. Lastly, since when did Staind become a real band? Are you serious? Listen to real "grunge" like Staind? Real grunge doesnt even exist anymore, and Aaron Lewis is just a loser who decided to whine and cry about everything to the tune of a guitar and the beat of a drum. One of the most untalented bands to ever surface. Also, whoever says Layne Stayley cannot sing is a retard. Are yall listening or are you just high? He has one of the most unique and recognizable voices in the history of American rock and roll. So shut up.

5AIC MASTERPIECE  Jun 28, 2009
though their career was cut short, AIC never released a bad cd.this is dark, moody, heavyand the best of ALICE IN CHAINS short career. keep hearing about new release with new singer. let's hope.

5alice in chains is not grunge  Jun 25, 2009
ok this album is awsome to all you people who buy this thinking your gonna get awsome grunge and dont get it shut up already ok alice in chains is not grunge i repeat ALICE IN CHAINS IS NOT GRUNGE and just because you dont enjoy it doesnt mean its boring worthless or trash it means its not your kinda stuff and i saw someone talking about staind please staind sucks and layne staley is a better vocalist then kurt cobain i heard him live i thought my ears would bleed layne is much better also i saw someone say layne did not do anything at all dont talk about things you dont know because layne staley wrote some of the songs for alice in chains laynes were the songs about drugs and innner strugles as where jerrys were more about relaitionships and that crap now with that said this album holds some of alice in chains key and most popular songs such as angry chair rooster would down in a hole and them bones the album is great and if you like the sound of the previous albums most popular song man in the box you will enjoy some but not all of this album
