Good voice - boring songs Jul 03, 2009 I've followed David Cook since American Idol, he is innovative with some of his songs, but they are mostly slow ballads. Where's the fun?

david cook Jun 22, 2009 Cannot stop listening to this amazing album! From the moment I saw his performance on American Idol(season 8) Final I had to have this album. Very emotional lyrics & his voice has a very raw intense quality. Best track-Permanent. This will be in my cd stacker for a long while! Janine, Sydney , Australia

Not really sold on David Cook, yet Jun 10, 2009 I realize that most performers do not put out a knock-out first cd so I'm willing to give David Cook another chance whenever he decides to release his second cd. I was looking forward to this cd because he "was the ROCKER who won American Idol"! Uhhhh, not so much. Every song on this cd is a semi-ballad and I really only can stand two songs; 1) Light On and 2) Come Back to Me. "Come Back to Me" sounds like Neil Diamond to me actually and I can't imagine it doing very well. The rest of the songs on the cd just lack....everything, actually. If you're from Blue Springs, MO, you should buy the cd to support your hometown guy but really, for the rest of you just wait until his second cd comes out to see if it's any better. I wouldn't buy this cd. I did and I placed it in my cd rack and that's where it'll stay.

Stellar Debut Album Jun 02, 2009 If you're expecting the usual pop songs and cliche lyrics that tend to come out of American Idol, then this album will surprise you!
Produced by Rob Cavallo, the album encompasses all sides of Rock, from the anthemic 'Declaration' and 'Heroes', to the softer 'Come back to Me' and 'Lie', to the poigantly personal, introspective 'Permanent', to the metallic crunching 'Bar-ba-sol'.
A strong album full of rich lyrics, strong vocals and catchy tunes, this debut definitely shows David Cook's Star is firmly on the rise!

disappointed May 29, 2009 Maybe it's a product of age, but I just don't hear what all the five star reviewers are raving about. I watched Season 7 -- which I think had the most talented contestants ever- and I loved David Cook. But I can't listen to this CD. All the songs sound the same, and what they sound like isn't a vocalist but a lot of mashed, overloud, overpowering "accompaniment". In my opinion, all current pop is heavily overproduced, until it hardly matters who is singing. Here, what does it matter that it's David Cook, since almost any singer would sound the same, smothered by all that processed generic accompaniment.
