If Pain Had A Voice It Would Sound Like This Sep 12, 2009 It's been years since I've listened to this album. I had the blessing and the curse of this CD dropping right as me and my first serious love were parting ways. Ten years later the darkness of the music still echoes in that hollow part that was ripped from my heart. And I know that sounds like a bad thing, but it's really not. You know when you see, hear, or smell something that offends you but you can't help but go back for a little bit more, it's kinda like that. Sometimes we all need to feel that pain every once and a while, and I can't imagine any other band that could take your there like Stabbing Westward. There are a couple low points in the album, I would have given it 4 and a half stars, but since it was either 4 or 5 I think the power of the better songs propel it closer to 5 than 4.
However as a footnote I must mention their 4th album did suck quite hard. The lead singer found some new love and was in a happy relationship when he recorded it. You can hear in his voice that hurt and loneliness are gone. Which I guess is good for him, just bad for his music ;)
These guys need a voice of their own... May 31, 2009 I bought this CD based on listening to Wither Blister Burn, which despite the blatant Nine Inch Nails sounds and overall NINishness, the album is very good! I also bought this CD based on some of the reviews on Amazon. One reviewer said it was the best album he's ever listened to. Another review said this was a depressing, melancholic album. After a brief first listen, I can say one of the songs sounds like Smashing Pumpkins, another song sounds like a Killing Joke guitar riff, and then another songs is eerily reminiscent of Rage Against the Machine. These guys need err ... needed (I guess the band dissolved) a voice of their own. And the review about the songs sounding morose, melancholic, sad, depressing - I didn't hear it. You want depressing, listen to the Cure's Pornography album. In any event, maybe this album needs a couple listens, but my first impression is not all that favorable despite a few songs that seemed ok, nothing mind blowing. I thought the Wither Blister album was significantly better. YMMV.
One of my all time favorite records Jan 12, 2009 Darkest Days by Stabbing Westward is one of the records I really enjoy and have since the 7th grade. Darkest Days was the record me and my buddy used to listen to when mom and dad werent with us at school on our sony walkmens (remember those days!). This record is sonically and lyrically great. This album is very depressing and dark to say the least. It is one of the darkest albums I have ever heard or own. However, this is SW at their pinnacle. It gets no better than this. I have many copies of this record and still buy more of them when I loan someone a copy or give one away. Rest assured, this is one album I always have a copy of. One of my all time favorite records!
Darkest Days - Dark Sep 15, 2008 When this CD hits... It hits hard. I was very impressed with this CD. This by far is the best of the now discontinued band. I was very impressed. Too many great songs to toss this one in the bargain bin. Great sound and very dynamic audio quality.

Stabbing Westward - Darkest Days Apr 30, 2008 Darkest Days is quite simply an accomplishment in industrial rock. It is dark, haunting, beautiful, a truly timeless release. Chris displays such passion behind his lyrics and vocal work, a real treat to listen to, while the music that accompanies it is tight and very well put together. Anyone who has ever suffered from a broken heart can relate to this album on many levels. Unparalleled in it's depth, this is a release I can listen to over and over again and never tire of hearing it. The power and emotion contained within this release belongs in any collection and makes the dark times easier to cope with, and shines a dim light on otherwise painful situations. It just makes you feel like someone else understands the sometimes harsh nature of life.
