"Undefined" Great Music.. Feb 06, 2009 I'm reading many critiques of this work, and I don't understand why people feel the need to define it. It's just great music! The production (while polished) is great as is the musicianship. This recording explores all kinds of textures/moods, and is simply put-good music. I've seen Pat Travers playing clubs in the 90's, and I must say, the bands now playing arenas aren't half as talanted as he is.
Overall - My favorite PT recording based on its wide range of; style, hooks, grooves.

Crash and Burn:Move Over Rover and Let Keyboard Take Over! Oct 12, 2008 Crash and Burn is Pat Travers' sixth album and the last one featuring the potent line up of Pat Thrall (guitar),Tommy Aldridge (drums) and Mars Cowling (bass).
This album is a strange standout in PT's catalog. While known for his searing blues-based guitar rock, the keyboards and synthesizers were knocking on Pat's door and he let them in,in a big way,on this recording.
The album starts off with the synth drenched title track "Crash and Burn" a slow, soulful rocker. The next two tunes are both uptempo rockers, which find Travers and Co. back in familiar guitar territory. The latter of the two "Snortin' Whiskey(and Drinkin' Cocaine)" was a FM radio hit and the most requested song of 1980, in a lot of markets. The next two songs show PT's ability to adapt to non-rock cover tunes."Born Under a Bad Sign" was a huge hit for the famous blues legend Albert King. The next tune "Is This Love" was a Bob Marley staple.Traver's cover of these two songs are both very good renditions. The last three tunes "The Big Event","Love Will Make You Strong" and "Matrial Eyes" may make avid Pat Travers fans a little uncomfortable,as all three are keyboard based, slow, ethereal rockers.
If you are looking for the authentic Pat Travers "hard rock" sound, you may want to start with his first release "Pat Travers" or "Heat In The Street",his fourth effort.I don't want to give the impression that this is a bad album, because it's not.In fact,it's a very good album. But,I believe that next to his more "balls to the wall" efforts,"Crash and Burn",with it's synthesizers is an acquired taste, but nonetheless,is still a "Pat Travers album".

Last great Travers album Apr 06, 2007 I have this on vinyl, been a Pat fan since '78 - I thought Black Pearl was a great record until I listened a little closer. "Crash" is Pat's crossover into the serious keyboard fixation, without losing the great guitar work... I still love his playing, even after all these years.

Great Great Album Jan 12, 2006 This is by far the best Pat Travers album ever. I've had this album since college. The songs are almost voodoo blues yet mesmerizing rockers that overlap each other with depth and complexity. The album comes across as intense and dark, but much of this music is melodic and airy. My personal standout here is "Can't Be Right", but every song is fantastic. Pat Travers is a true musician who has stood the test of time. I hope he continues writing such impressive music for many more years to come.
