5I Heart Jack White  Oct 01, 2009
If Jack White is involved, I'm never disappointed: however, Consolers of The Lonely is absolutely awesome. I loved every track. I would say its much better than Broken Boy Soldiers. Can't go wrong with this one.

5Originally a Jack White Fan; Also Now a Raconteur Fan  Sep 08, 2009
I got this album because Jack White became one of the Raconteurs. I expected to only like Jack White. Much to my surprise, I really like the Raconteurs and especially this album. Although Jack's CAROLINA DRAMA end tune on this album became my top fave almost immediately, I soon found that I also was listening to Brendan's FADE TO BLACK quite often. This song made it onto the NPR listeners' top 25 songs for 2008. Then I found that I really like the first track, then the third track, especially with the piano opening and close and so on. Now I listen to all of them and so I am hooked.

I can't recall another recording artist (than White) who has branched out to this extent with other artists. Plus there have been no permanent, bitter fallings out. White has one guise with THE WHITE STRIPES, another with THE RACONTEURS, has just joined DEAD WEATHER and issued an album with them in 2009, and has worked singly with other artists on single recordings from the likes of Mick Jagger to Alicia Keys to Loretta Lynn. In all of this, he never insists on titling the record "Jack White and the {name of band}". I think that is very smart because there have been no giant breakups with anyone and he has left all musical doors open. Thus, as a fan, I can look forward to seeing him issue albums with many different other artists and blend his sound with theirs. I wish other recording artists would take the hint and do the same.

5"Album of the decade"? Positively Yeah !  Sep 04, 2009
I've recently discovered the Raconteurs and I've been listening "Consolers of the Lonely" 24x7 !! I'm addicted !!! It's the best thing I've heard in a looooooong while - dare I say "album of the decade"? Positively Yeah ! (and because of this gem I got in touch with the genius of Jack White and the White Stripes... so simple and so cool!)

4Let your ears be consoled  Aug 29, 2009
As a panoptikum (sorry not aware if there's an english word for this) of the musician's influences "Consolers of the Lonely" is a love letter and fan-orama of the most pleasant order. You hear familiar chords, beats and realise they are carfully balanced with the more experimental side of Jack White's and Brendan Benson's musical spectrum.

Always one to try something new by taking the old and mold it, White with Stripes or Dead Weather is never boring and sometimes brilliant. And with this album, and many might disagree, he seems to have found a magical mixture between the "avantgarde" and the traditional.

If you care to give the works of Mr. White and his collaborators a chance, I suggest this album might be a very good point to start from.

No musician lives up to the hype that surrounds him, but he might just live up to their craft. White, Benson et al. certainly do on this album. Maybe not as cohesive as some may wish, but a beautiful gallery of ideas and concepts.

Let your ears be consoled.

5Wunderbar.  Aug 28, 2009
I'm a huge White Stripes fan and I pursued this album because it falls within the genre of music that I listen to. I really liked the album, but not because I liked the White Stripes, if that makes any sense. The two bands produce two way different sounds. The White Stripes' sound is very simple basic music, which I like whereas the Raconteurs' music has a lot more going on in it. Regardless of any other musical affiliations of the members with any bands, I think "Consolers of the Lonely" is a pretty good rock album. If you've listened to their first album "Broken Boy Soldiers", I would compare them by saying that this new album is less volatile in sound from song-to-song and, in my opinion, an improvement in the sometimes boring, slow drawl of music that is "Broken Boy Soldiers".
