Golden Color Jul 06, 2009 For fans of Judy Collins, this offering from the folks at DCC should be virtually self-recommending. Featuring tunes from four of her best releases of the late '60s and early '70s, Colours of the Day (Could it really be more than 25 years since it was first released? Can we really be getting that old? Who knows where the time goes!?) is a rich and satisfying anthology both musically and sonically.
JUDY COLLINS ALIVE AGAIN! Jun 13, 2008 I first heard Judy Collins when I was about 15 years old. My Grandparents had one of her albums. Most teens don't like their Grandparents music and I was usually no exception! Hearing her was like hearing the music of my soul.. I use to buy all her albums, and listened to her for many years. Time and music changed..and some reason, I thought of her again recently and got this CD. It was like revisiting a part of my soul that I thought I forgot about! I still knew all the songs by heart and still loved "Sons of.." the best. Amazing Grace and Farewell to Tarwathie mellows me out so! I don't know why I lost her, "but now I'm found"- Judys voice and choices of songs are like listening to a flowing crystal stream.. I can't imagine anyone not loving her just listening to her once! I'm 50 now and am a renewed fan!
Brilliant Oct 21, 2007 This CD is absolutely amazing. I love it. Vocally Judy is at her best and the song collection is unique and ecclectic. Well worth the money.
(It's) this one (if going via 'greatest hits') Apr 18, 2007 I'd suggest just going all the way and getting In My Life and Whales & Nightingales, but if you're uncertain or cheap or whatever, this is the best of the comps.
No "Send In The Clowns"!
Ok, it's true - Collins managed to bring fame to Joni Mitchell by mangling "Both Sides Now" (it's just drenched). Dialectically enough, her take on "In My Life" strips the the studio artifice of the original and gets vividly deep into the tune's soul.
The best thing about this collection, however, is the generous amount of Collins' own compositions. "Since You Asked," "Sons Of" and "Albatross" are three serious 1960's art song contenders.
Also: the version here of "Who Knows Where The Times Goes" removes the Stephen Stills' electric guitar, shines up his acoustic and lets Collins free to do her storytelling best.
Nice.
Lovely, enduring classic Mar 15, 2007 One of my most loved albums in university in the early 70s, and now my 17 year old daughter feels the same way. Her extraordinary clear voice and range of emotion, and flawless delivery compliment an amazing variety of styles, pure folk, country. Broadway, classic ballads (Suzanne), or spirituals (Amazing Grace) and not a bad song on the album. Jacque Brel's "Sons of..." still brings tears to my eyes after all these years.
She was, simply, a treasure, and this album is a must to own.
