 Loved the werewolf Nov 18, 2009
I like this book, and they seem to get better as they go along, both technical writing style and freedom of the character to be herself. It's a little gross/sexy, but that is Charlaine's style for these and all of her books (it seems). The Eric plot is getting really good, and it seems a lot of these story lines might make it to the next season of true blood, so it is a must read for some hint of where it might go for t.v. lovers. I know it's not the same, but the show hooked me before the books did. After I read the books, I went crazy and prefer them to the show.

I'm never quite sure how to describe Charlaine Harris' series of Sookie Stackhouse books. Sure there are mysteries to solve. There are also elements of romance (now complicated by Eric becoming the third point in a triangle between Sookie and Bill). There is also a surprising amount of humor and tongue-in-cheek satire in the books.
Club Dead gets us out of Bon Temps and across the state line into Mississippi where Sookie goes to find her apparently kidnapped (and apparently unfaithful) Bill. Her guide is Alcide, a Were to whom Sookie feels some pretty heavy-duty attraction. Eric also pops in and out - usually through the fifth-floor guest bedroom window - and "Bubba" makes an appearance in the book. Gotta love that Bubba! Here he gets to be a bit of a hero while serving as Sookie's guardian vamp.
Even though I'm a late-comer to the Southern Vampire Mysteries, I have to admit that I love it so far. Even the secondary characters are well drawn and can be just as endearing as the main characters. If there's one thing I didn't like about this particular book it's the reliance of Sookie drinking some vamp blood to amp up her strength. I hope that doesn't become a convenient plot device in future books since it almost seems like cheating. Besides, I'd rather Sookie figure things out in her telepathic brain than rely on vampire-induced brawn.
Entertaining Easy Read Nov 10, 2009
Big fan of the genre & of the True Blood TV Series, but the book was definitely not a let down. Even if you aren't familar with the show or previous titles in this series, the author makes it easy to dive in, while not weighing down the existing fans with excessive recap of previous storyline details.
This book is quick paced & entertaining! I'm hooked!
Can't put these books down! Nov 06, 2009
I liked the True Blood series so I found the books online and ordered a few. I found that I was fascinated by the characters and story lines, even more than the series. I can't stop reading. It is such an interesting way to think about the world, and it makes you want to jump into the book. I think real life seems a little dull at the moment.
I've now bought all the rest of the Stackhouse books and some of Harris' other books which I'll save for when I am mourning the end of the Stackhouse novels. I just bought the Stackhouse books in Spanish, too, so I can brush up on my Spanish. I thought that would be fun after I read the English version through a second time.
I read all the time and I've never enjoyed a book more. I hope Harris will write a few more.

Charlaine Harris has once again created an imaginative,fun, entertaining addition to the Sookie Stackhouse series with her novel Club Dead. Sookie remains our chatty, likeable, brave heroine who gets involved in another mystery involving her beloved vampire Bill. This time it's Bill that's missing and her investigations may uncover more than she can handle. This leads to a trip to Mississippi with her escort a Werewolf named Alcide and of course more interactions with Eric the "to hot to handle" Norse vampire and comic relief from Bubba the very famous look a like (or is he) vampire. Harris has a wonderful style with her writing that draws the reader in and makes us feel like we want to be friends with Sookie and even though she is dating vampires her emotions and actions are definetly human. Light hearted, entertaining and humorous..I can't get enough of Sookie and her friends!
