Description:

Circus is the seventh album by Britney Spears. It rolls into town on the heels of an MTV VMA awards sweep, where Britney walked away with three Moonmen awards for 'Video of the Year', 'Best Female' and 'Best Pop Video' for 'Piece Of Me'. Circus is the follow up to her critically well received album, Blackout, just in in time for her 27th birthday. The lead single, 'Womanizer' (produced by the up and coming Atlanta production team The Outsyders) has already created a frenzy amongst Britney fantaics, radio and the media alike-underscoring Britney's continued reign as one of the Queens of Pop.

4A fun Brit but .....  Jan 29, 2010
I just want to star off by saying this ia a fun album ,and that's all it's meant to be. It isn't meant to be a biography even though there are songs like "out from under' and "unusual you" that have a faint sense of realism to them.

Britney is out to do what she does best which is to promote fun pop music that leaves you repeating it way after it's has stopped playing. The beyond catchy "Womanizer" gets everything started and has a faint hint of Blackout. It just oes more up beat than anything did on the previous album. I don't know about you but everything on the blackout album seemed darker. ( not that that's a bad thing but this album tries tt's best to avoid the darker side.)

I think this album's whole goal was to show us the fun, light,Carefree spears of yesteryear (circa 2001). It succeeds at it.

After the blast of womanizer it is follwed by circus. Which is fun and very defined. It allows her to move on and stay the same all at the same time. Then there is "out from under" which is actually truly enjoyable and would have made killer sinlge for her ,in my opinion.

Then there is kill the lights whis sor toliek a throw back to black outbut doesn't hit anywher as hard. It's alright but sadly doesn't bare worth repeating alot to me. Shattered glass is a gcool number but really coudl haev beenleft as a throw away track nto really essential to the album but it does seemto mirror her actually life adn that makes it a little more interesting.

Then there is the controversial single "If U Seek AMY". Upon the first listen i was hooked and it has a very kiddy sing-along feel to it. Then you realize whatsheis actually saying and you are like WHOA!!! Then it takes on it's other subtle meaning. This gives the song a little boldness. It's a fun number and that's really all it's meant to be. ( sort of reminds me of what to you see is what you get from her second album. I think this is mainly becasue it is produced by the same guy.)

Then their is Unusual You which is slower and i think could have made a sleeper hit for her. It just has a very "away" feeling to it and very restful feel. It also does seem to come off as kind of autobiograohical even if it isn't.

One of my favorite songs called Blur comes off as very subdued. It feels like a retelling of a night gone bad. She talks of being disorientated and not knowing where she is or who she is with. Afarid that she might have done something not so good. T his song is heavy onthe reptitious which can get old for some people real quick but the messaeg that kindo got tome. You feel as if there is some strange real life experience to this song but you can;t quite put your finger onit. The pructiononthis song is top notch. It is done by Danja the same guy that broughtus lot sof tracks on Blackout. So ther ei s lightly darker feel to this one.

After tthis song themodd changes somewhat for sun shine and 60s grooves. Mmm papi. I did liek this song alot upon first listen but after alittle while youare kindo f like okat what esle do oyu have for us , Brit?

The same canbe said of Mannequin, I didn't lieit intially wheni heard it played inthe background during a rehearsal shootof hers. Then once iheard the full album versioni was hooked. I really thoughti should have been asingle but nowi realize it shouldnt mainly becaus somewhere in allthe auto tune and blurred words. You get kind of sick of it. I can only really listen to this number iccassionally.

The ther is lace and leather oneof hte bette songs onthe album. I lie the guitar inthe middle it works aout weel andkind give ths osng s mor e classic rock 80s feel.

My baby is sweet song worth listening to occassionally. This one is obviously abtuo her kids. Not my favorite but i doliek her voice on it.

Radar makes a grand reappearance from Blackout with a slightly altered version of it's self. It nice song but not really fitting with the songs on this album. I think it was here just to fullfil an obligation.

All in all its fun albunm whihc show cases why we like Spears it her over lightness and ability to take oyu out of oyur reality and pull you into her world.

33-1/2 stars -- Back as the main attraction?  Jan 04, 2010
Britney Spears' personal problems during the latter half of the `00s were discussed to death all over television, so I'm not going to go into that. I never had anything against her as an artist; still, I wasn't really impressed with some of her early albums. I didn't get to hear her "comeback" album Blackout, but I decided to listen to Circus.

The best song on here would have to be "My Baby", an acoustic dedication to her two sons. The thing is, though, when I hear that song I'm reminded of a question my sister asks when she heard "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart"..."Why doesn't she sing like this more often???" Anyway, "If U Seek Amy" is also catchy, and you can tell it was only written for shock value because it really isn't about anything. The bonus track "Radar" is also pretty decent.

That's about it for highlights, though. "Womanizer" is a little overrated, but a few songs are skippable, like "Mmm Papi" and "Kill the Lights". And although I do understand what she's getting at in "Unusual You", that's an unusual way to talk about it. Everything else is okay, but if you're not a devoted fan of Britney, B.I.F.

4I like almost all the songs  Dec 29, 2009
Great album, I got the CD because I can't download music outside USA, but it's ok because I liked almost all the songs.

3Britney's Back...  Dec 21, 2009
After two years of being labeled crazy by paparazzi who were there to capture it all, Britney came back hard with 2008's "Circus." It's first single "Womanizer" was Britney's first Billboard Hot 100 #1 since "Baby One More Time" (Don't believe "The Single Collection's booklet, neither "Toxic" or "Circus" went Number One). I received this album for Christmas last year, and while I didn't enjoy it as much as "Blackout," it is a pretty good album overall.

As with any Brit record, the singles are the obvious highlights. "Circus" is my personal favorite, as it is so infectious that it will get stuck in your head and you can't help but sing along. But, honestly, who expects anything else from a Britney Spears single? Third single "If U Seek Amy" has a secret message that I'm sure most people know by now. And the fourth single is "Radar" which is actually a bonus track that was originally included on "Blackout" and got airplay when it came out, despite it not being a single then.

There are a few good non-singles that aren't filler. "Out From Under" is a pretty ballad, not exactly on "Everytime" standards, but close enough. "Shattered Glass" is also pretty catchy. "Blur" has a good beat, but other than that, it's just a "blur." "Mmm Papi" is horrible! Other than that, "Circus" is pretty dull. As a Britney fan, I'm a little disappointed, yet not to surprised. "Blackout" was fully of catchy dance songs, and had not nearly as much filler. So, if you're looking for a solid, filler-lite album, check that one out. But, if you still only get music physically (We have something in common!), then check out "Circus," and you're promised four catchy singles, plus a few more decent tracks.

2It is what it is  Dec 12, 2009
Circus is Britney being Britney. Not much new here. Simple, overproduced, dumbed down, poppy songs. If you're a fan of top 40 garbage, then this one's for you. Enjoy
