Description:

On September 29th Shout! Factory will release Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, a tribute to former Miracle Legion front man Mark Mulcahy. The album features 21 exclusive covers of Mulcahy songs by Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Dinosaur Jr., Mercury Rev, The National, Frank Black, Vic Chesnutt, Frank Turner, and Josh Rouse, and others. Mulcahy's wife, Melissa, died suddenly in September 2008, and proceeds from the sale of the album will go to Mulcahy to help him continue his music career while raising his 3-year-old twin daughters.

Mulcahy was the front man and main songwriter for alternative rock band Miracle Legion in the 1980s to mid 1990s. Mulcahy also fronted Polaris, the house band for the mid 1990s alternative television series The Adventures of Pete & Pete (1993-96) and perhaps best remembered for the song "Hey Sandy," which was featured in the opening credits of the show.

If you don't know how music can renew our spirits and help us to go on with hope, then I ask you to give Ciao My Shining Star a listen. Then go further and listen to the source of these beautifully written songs by Mark Mulcahy and his earlier work with Ray Neal in Miracle Legion and as Polaris for the show Pete and Pete Show. These songs covered by a who's who of modern music are wonderfully and lovingly done by musicians with hearts and this tribute album reflects their love for Mark and his family. Ciao My Shining Star was done to help Mark continue on fathering their twin daughters, after the lose of his wife, Melissa Rich. The music does so much more to keep hope in love alive for all of us. I thank Mark and Ray and all guys from Miralce Legion and I am grateful to the organizers and musicians that gave their inspired renditions of Mark's songs. Peace to all and my hope and prayer go out to Mark and his daughters for love will endure. George Stanley
