The Boss Will Always Be The Boss! Aug 17, 2009 Chimes of Freedom is a great addition to any Springsteen fan's collection! The six plus minute version of "Tougher Than The Rest" is the real treat of the album, and the title track "Chimes of Freedom" is a great cover of the original Bob Dylan hit. Chimes of Freedom isn't just a free for all music album, it's classic Springsteen - reminding listeners of a bigger issue. Amnesty International and Human Rights Now! were to benefit from the release of this album. It's The Boss at his best - the album's worth every penny.

Bone Chilling Apr 30, 2009 I love Bruce Springsteen. My younger sister introduced me to his music when she was a teenager. I had first heard from others, that his music was boring, trite and over done. I was listening to Mott the Hoople, Quicksilver and Humble Pie and I had it all going on. My friends did not care for Springsteen and still most of them do not.
I saw him in concert in 1984 in Worcester, Ma and I cried almost all night..It was soooooooooooo wonderful. My sister and I, were hoarse for 3 days afterwards. Every song, he played for us. Every move, he made on stage..was for us.
I have not seen him perform recently, but would if the chance came about.
I love this album, I love all his albums. I love him with and without his band and with and without Patti.
He is a great artist and a great musician. I want to thank Mr. Springsteen for being there when I needed him and my sister for making the whole thing possible, in the first place.
Solid but Unspectacular Effort from the Boss Apr 15, 2009 "Chimes of Freedom" holds an odd place in the Springsteen lexicon. Larger than a single but smaller than an album when first released, it holds up much better in this age of CD singles with 4 songs on them. Springsteen does a good enough job on "Chimes of Freedom" and his upbeat "Be True" is a pleasant surprise. The album also has two mellow cuts-"Tougher than the Rest" and a slow and acoustic version of "Born to Run" which is quite different from the original version. While aficionados of the Boss will enjoy this album, I suspect its appeal will be limited outside that circle. Be sure to pay a decent price for it since this is not a full album.

Bruce Honors the Master Dec 23, 2008 The best of this EP disc are the other tunes on the album, "Tougher Than The Rest," "Be True," and an acoustic version of "Born to Run." These are all tunes that will get a smile from Springsteen fans. None are extraordinary, but they're all good.
The title track is everything Springsteen haters detest about the Jersey Jesus anad then some. The song opens to a long 1:20 sermon delivered in the most self-righteous pompous tone of voice in which Springsteen salutes Amnesty International as if he is the enlightened one preaching down to the ignorant masses.
I for one wish Bruce Springsteen would shut the F!!! up about politics. He is a fanatic true believer of the hard core left wing dogma that permeates the entertainment industry but where he is a genius at writing incredible songs that give meaning and purpose to the heroes of everyday life, he is no genius on matters of history and politics just a blind adherent who follows the script.
The performance of "Chimes of Freedom" that would be a great song for Bruce and crew to perform isn't strong enough to go through the effort of using some fancy software and editing out his Amnesty International blah-blah-blah to make a nice custom disc.
If you are politically to the left of the Clinton's this disc is just for you, but if you're an old school Democrat, Middle-of-the-Road Moderate, or God forbid, Republican, you will find this disc highly offensive.
