Description:

If Andre is 3000, then his Dungeon Family cohort Cee-lo Green might be 3074. Green spends his studio time wisely for this sophomore solo release, forsaking current urban-music trends to explore what they might have been--or might still be. The soul-machine moniker fits Green well on "All Day Love Affair" as his addictive crooning complements some perfectly placed strings and a throwback horn arrangement. What Green didn't tell you is that he's also a well-oiled spoken word ("I Am Selling Soul," "Sometimes") and postmodern gospel ("Living Again") machine too. The track that might attract the most attention is "Glockappella," which finds this former Goodie Mobster dissing his former crew. Outside productions from the likes of Timbaland, Jazze Pha, the Neptunes, and DJ Premier help Green to capture the full gamut of black music. Sure, Green might be considered an acquired taste for consumers not attuned to the whiny, scat-style rap flows he employs on the mesmeric "Childz Play." And his duet with the Pharrell Williams ("Let's Stay Together") brings together two soul vocalists with few notes at their disposal. Still, eccentricities aside, Soul Machine offers an enjoyable sampling of one of rap's most underrated talents. --Dalton Higgins

4Hip Hop Al Green  Dec 03, 2008
First, I have got to be Al Green's number one fan, and when I came in contact with Cee-Lo through Goodie Mob, I knew I was onto something. His gritty voice captivated me on his first cd, so I bought this one. I have been listening to this cd for more than 2 years. I recently uploaded it to my MP3 player, and I must admit that he helped me lose many pounds on the treadmill! ...."well let them wait!"

3See how different he is?!?  Aug 06, 2008
Feels like Cee is trying a little too hard to prove how multi-talented he is on here. There are a few standout tracks where he puts together an amazing rap or sings beautifully but the majority of this long solo disc feels overwrought lyrically and musically. Unfortunately in the sliding scale of hip-hop, an album like this stands far more unique then it ought.

5Soulful and Smooth - check out Devin the Dude's latest  Apr 18, 2008
if you love Cee-Lo, check out his homie Devin the Dude Smoke Sessions, Vol. 1- track 3 getting high is something to smoke to - whoah - this is the first album since Rapalot Days and the first album of Devin's to hit the Billboard Charts - Congrats

5Good album!!!  Jul 09, 2006
This is a really good album. And, though I like almost every song here, my favorites would have to be "I am Selling Soul" and "When We Were Friends". "I am Selling Soul" shows why he's thought to be, by some, one of the best spittas in the game. More than just you're average flow, it's also thought provoking and just feels good to listen to . "When We Were Friends" has him taking a soulful trip down memory lane to when he and Khujo were good friends. Even though this song sound really good to me, I can hear the longing for their friendship to return to that place. So, it's a kinda sad song too, in my opinion. But still, I love this album and would urge any Cee-lo fan to go get this if you haven't already. You'll be glad that you did.

4"Let The Music Play"  Jan 31, 2006
One of my favorite albums that came out that year. Just a good mood, good vibe cd. Pop this in and roll the windows down and enjoy. Good combination of rapping, soul, and R&B. His last album did not have enough rapping, he spits plenty of good verses on this one.

Its creative because there is a little bit of something on there for everybody. My wife does not like much rap, but she even likes this cd. Check it out. Hotep!!
