3Category F5  Oct 22, 2009
Most people are not going to know what "Category F5" means, but it is explained on the first track of the album, and once you discover its meaning, you'll realize that it's a great album title. You'll also discover how Category F5 ties into the name Twista. I remember him promoting this album on his Twitter, and I have some his past LPs and liked them, so I decided to give this one a chance, also.

Lyrically, Twista has not run out a tricks. He still has that super-fast style of rapping and never will you catch all of his one-liners in just a sole listen. The album's lead single, "Wetter" is easily one os the best moments on this disc, though the hook is repetitive and kind of annoying. "Wetter" is extremely radio friendly, as are many of the tracks here on "Category F5." If you have ever heard "Wetter", you know the lyrics are raunchy, just as several other songs here are. "Birthday", "Yellow Light" and "Yo Body" are all downright explicit. R. Kelly is featured on "Yellow Light" and, as usual, the two Chicagoans do well together. But, beware Autotune haters, this song uses Autotune and lots of it. "Misunderstood" is a haunting track and Twista is at his best, lyrically and his delivery is energetic.

I enjoyed this album all in all and anxiously await future projects from Twista. He's so creative. He's a raw talent and deserves more recognition from rap lovers.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "Wetter"
2. "Birthday"
3. "American Gangsta"
4. "Fire"
5. "Midunderstood"

4Damm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great Album, Crosses all LINES!! of music  Oct 02, 2009
Now I have to admit, was a Twista fan from way back, but then I fell off. My co-worker gave me this album and it sat in my Windows Media Player for about a Month untouched. I finally listened to it today and WOW. Every track to me is a Banger, now I don't really do commercial RAP being from the south but I even dig is commercial songs. "Birthday, Wetter, Yellow Light, Yo Body" are Killers.

These songs, bring me back to the day of House Party's when slow GHETTO JAMZ would allow you to fill on the little girls BOOTY. GOOD HIP HOP HERE!!!!! In addition, I love the Hook Samples in "Talk to Me", good throw back sample, haven't really heard it before. "Billionaire", is a Killer with Busta Rhymes....This is what HIPHOP NEEDS, more songs with artist from diffrent COAST! As well, "Walking On Ice", should be good for the YOUNGSTARS out there...who like the deep bass, and get crunk nonsense style of todays MUSIC.. Gucci did it on this one.

Check out this ALBUM!

2Auto-tune Ruins This Album. Twista; What Happened?  Sep 01, 2009
I'm not exaggerating. Auto-tune sucks the life out of hip-hop. If I was king for a day, we would destroy whatever device creates the auto-tune effect and we would shoot the producers who are using it. Auto-tune sucks! I cannot say that enough.

I've been a Twista fan since he released "Kamikaze" back in 2004. I would rather play "The Day After" or even "Adrenaline Rush 2007" than this album - not because Twista sucks or is without talent, but because auto-tune is s---. I hate it, hate it, hate it.

The auto-tune effects RUIN every song. Hopefully, Twista will never, ever, under any circumstances, use said effect again.

Keep hip-hop PURE, not computerized!

If the Wu-Tang Clansmen start using this effect, I'm gonna kill myself...but not until I've taken the rest of the auto-tuners with me.

Peace.

3Twista Dropped the Ball.  Jul 29, 2009
I've listened to this album many times now and I can't really bring myself to recommend it as a whole. There are parts of it that serve as glimmers of hope that the Adrenaline Rush era Twista has made a return, but then those are squashed by too many filler tracks. There's the token Akon feature (vomit), which I'm sure will be the next single released, and a few others that just seem phoned in.

The first track on the album, Misunderstood, is awesome. Great production, fire from Twista, and a good feature from Buk of Psychodrama make this the highlight song on the album. However, just as you think the album is going to make up for some of Twista's recent stumbles, he sucks himself back into his habit of churning out poppy, radio-friendly (i.e. uninteresting, uncreative) tracks. A potentially superb collaboration with Do or Die is unfortunately dragged down by a complete garbage chorus, which is a shame because at first this song harkens back to the days of 'Legit Ballers' and other Speedknot Mobstaz tracks. And in another collaboration that could have been excellent, but wasn't, Lil Boosie is misused in a token weed song. The R. Kelly collaboration, Yellow Light, should have been renamed Red Light, because this forgettable song should have been left on the cutting room floor from the beginning.

It's not all bad..although quite a bit of it is. Some of the tracks that are promising or somewhat enjoyable include Talk To Me, Jump Off, and American Gangster. Interestingly enough, the tracks that are the most worthwhile are the ones where Twista isn't collaborating with other rappers (Misunderstood being the one exception).

Overall, I give this a 2.5 out of 5 (which I'll just round up to 3) because it seems like Twista is motivated to put together a quality record through half of the album, but the other half comes across as lazy and uninspired. If you are interested in checking this out, I would recommend trying to listen to the songs listed above rather than wasting your money on the entire album. It won't be worth it.
