His comedic genius continues Nov 22, 2009 I bought this book not because I or any member of my family suffered through cancer treatments but rather because i'm just a huge fan of the comedy of Robert Schimmel. Little did I know just how touching and poignant this tome would be in addition to being laugh out loud funny, and when I say LAUGH OUT LOUD funny, I mean it. Several parts of this book will have you tears, some from laughter, some from the anguish of his journey through radiation, chemotherary, his family and friends. Most important is that Robert teaches us that keeping a sense of humor no matter what God and life throws our way is essential to our survival. The human soul yearns out for both freedom and laughter. We should all embrace it fully.
cancer on five dollars a day Oct 27, 2009 Reader beware, lots of crude jokes but I have to say I loved it. When I was on my cancer journey I decided that the best medicine was laughter....Robert Schimmel and I were both corret. Great advice, "If you want to live, keep moving forward".
God bless you Robert for making some of us laugh during our darkest hours.
A Must Read! Sep 22, 2009 Robert Schimmel's frank approach brings humor and witty sarcasm to the surface while facing a menacing diagnosis. Reading this while I was going through chemo made me realize that I wasn't unique in experiencing the same symptoms, thoughts, and fears. His writing makes you step outside of yourself and see the comedy about life. This book is mesmeric - I literally could not put it down until it was finished. I've purchased a couple extra copies and sent them to friends who are dealing with cancer. If you are touched by cancer in some way or even if you're not, this book is hilariously inspiring.
Humor, truth and compassion. Excellent book. Sep 20, 2009 Very funny, very honest, very caring. That's a tough hat trick to pull off but Robert Schimmel does it really well. If you've ever wanted to flirt with the nurse who has your hand in her armpit while she's looking for a vein, or to have sex with the nurse who's administering the chemotherapy before the nausea sets in, then this is the book for you.
Woderful Book Sep 09, 2009 I heard Robert Schimmel in an interview on the radio talk about his book and I decided to buy it. I was not disapointed at all. It was an amazing read and I read it all in a weekend.
