The Boss: how it's done Jul 30, 2008 There are probably a dozen reviews here already that are small essays, but the bottom line is that nobody does a concert like Bruce. (And yes, I'm a big U2 fan.) Even if you own every studio album the man did, you need this one. An astonishing performance, and the Boss live is always at his best. I expected something less, because the guy's 50 years old here, but I was wrong wrong wrong.
If there is anything to complain about -- and I'm really reaching here -- it might be that a full concert, in sequence, could have fit on two DVDs. The editing here is excellent, but you've got to figure Bruce has some logic behind his set list, and second guessing probably doesn't improve it. Also, I thought a couple of tracks from Disc 2 were hardly the stuff to relegate to the "bonus" disc.
But, mostly I'm just glad we have this document of the greatest rock performer of a generation.
Bruce and the Band: Always Great Apr 20, 2008 Excellent effort overall. The main set is 3 stars, with some sound problems and a sense of disengagement. The extra material, about 11 tunes, is top notch, not to be missed 5 star stuff. The semi-acoustic "Born in the USA" is haunting, and dispells any myth as to what the song is really about. Well worth a purchase. The Boss and the E Street Band in concert are always a treat.

Truely the BEST of Springsteen and E-Street Band Dec 11, 2007 If you're a big fan of Springsteen with his infamous E-Street Band this truely is the BEST DVD concert you could ask for. I loved every minute of it and will watch it many times over. Certainly well worth every penny and far cheaper than the hundreds of dollars you'd pay for a concert ticket. I never get tired of watching Clarence Clemens blast out that saxophone. A must have for any Springsteen music collection. So much cooler to watch them performing rather than just listening to the music. Over 3 hours of non-stop music.

Why YOU need to own this dvd... Jul 22, 2007 If you want to see what a rock legend looks like, it is imperative that you watch this, possibly more than once.
A true rock legend is someone who actually transcends the genre. This DVD captures a man in his element, in his time, doing what he was put on this earth to do, without shame and without remorse. To put it simply, he plays and sings every note as if it were his last. He seizes the day and lays bare his passions. This is more than a rock concert, it is a lesson on how to live your life.
I'm not your typical gushing fan. I'm not going to say "All Hail Bruce Spingsteen, he's my hero!". Frankly, I don't know the man and I don't believe in hero-worship. But what I do know is that he understands his job and he does it very, very well. He knows how to touch people, how to lift their spirits and get them to aspire to something better. He speaks from his heart. His show is, in many ways, a religious experience-with ONE IMPORTANT DISTINCTION. It is all-inclusive. It's all there for the asking. You don't have to be a certain type of person, or subscribe to a particular set of beliefs in order to be a part of this. All you have to do is say "Yes, my heart is open. I want to be happy.". And, of course, you have to buy a ticket. There's no mission without margin, after all.
Bruce transcends the rock 'n' roll genre because he refuses to be defined by it. He acknowledges that he is an entertainer, but yet he continues to approach his work in earnest, with a certain reverence that makes it more important than what it otherwise would be. He understands that, above all, music is a means of communication. It is a way to connect with your fellow man and find common ground. He's not isolating himself from the audience. He's not talking about things that others can't understand. He's not trying to be vague and inscrutable. He's an idealist, a humanist, and he is using his medium to push us all to higher ground.
This DVD is about the church of the common man. And I say "Amen, my brothers and sisters. Throw off your shackles and be free!!!". Sing it loud and sing it proud Bruce. This DVD is what rock 'n' roll was meant to be. It's emotional, it's raw, it's honest. After watching this show I can honestly say that there is a force in the universe that moves us from within, and one of it's manifestations is Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band. The only question that remains is "Will you testify?".
