Good movie overshadowed by 4 letter expletives Feb 03, 2010 Great film, i remember seeing this when i was a teenager myself, while some of the movie may be a little far fetched there is quite a lot of plausibility here. Young upstart Cuba Gudding Junior mad a fine performance as did Ice Cube. The only problem with the film is the language is way to overbearing and at times makes the film difficult to watch because of the constant f-bombing in about every other line. The story is great, and the emotions are powerful, as with when i was a child though the girl i went out withs mom had a hissy fit and kept saying if i hear that language again its going off. Well the same could be said now as an adult. But its still great no matter how much you slice it, because especially during the early to mid 90's there was a huge influx in street gangs and extended amounts of violence especially in parts of L.A, and the low lying areas of California. So if your ears don't bleed from four letter profanities then pick it up, if not you'd better pass on this one, much like the movies Scarface and Phone booth, very overshadowed by fowl language, but great classic movies none the less.
"RICKEY!!!!" Jan 21, 2010 WOW what a great movie I watched this for the first time in 1994 when i was younger but my father only limited me to the part where doe boy was taken away in the police car. Once I was old enough to see the full movie I was hooked. Laurence Fishburn and Cuba Gooding were very good I think as a black man the movie was on point but you have to listen to Laurence's character because he makes perfect sense. The movie has violence, sex, drama, and its a real life experience.
Boyz 'N the Hood Jan 01, 2010 Three black male teens come-of-age in the gang "war zones" of South Central Los Angeles. The rough neighborhoods of America often are ignored by the propaganda of politics and media that focuses more on the positives and successes of American Life, Culture and Society. Singleton's vision in this movie, in a very grounded format is compelling in giving "Pleasantville America" a picture of an America that experiences terrorism on a daily basis. It helps explain why there is crime and harshness in these neighborhoods and most importantly clearly delineates the American Government's failure at addressing poverty in the ghettos of America by showing how the cops seem to treat all blacks in the ghetto as if they are animals and not as human beings with compassion. Cuba Gooding, Ice Cube were breath taking in their acting.

Where's that mall? Aug 06, 2009 I never saw this when it first came out. But when I got it on DVD and watched it it was great. I can already see where the makers of GTA San Andreas got their ideas from when making the game. The only question, I would like to know if that mall parking lot where Ice Cube and his two homies kill the three guys who killed his brother Ricky is the same place where the first back to the future movie was filmed at the part where Doc brown gets shot by some terrorists in a van and Marty goes back in time to 1955, because everytime I see that part they both look like they take place in the same area.
