eye opener Oct 19, 2009 Amazing book. Apart from the sordid stuff (and there is lots ) the players contribution is illuminating about how a team is built up and how little the media knows ( or reports) about what goes on behind the scenes .Its also interesting to see how hubris and envy destroy people and relationships. All told, an excellent look at an organisation going mad. I just wish somebody would write a book like this about the Joe Gibbs Redskins-or maybe there weren't many coke snorting, masturbating in public nutters in the Hogs>
Glory Days, Party Nights, and Repentance Oct 10, 2009 Jeff Pearlman's BOYS WILL BE BOYS reads like a team running downhill. He builds the narrative and then lets loose about the most famous team of the 90s, the Dallas Cowboys. Turns out the Cowboys also were the most selfish team of the decade, built by two of the most selfish leaders (Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson) imaginable. But winning covered a multitude of sins, at least that's what the players and later Barry Switzer believed. Pearlman's descriptions of the rampant partying and irresponsible behavior are so graphic that one starts to wince at the pain caused to so many. When the party finally ended in the late 90s, at least the players realized what fools they had been. A very quick and good read.
Readable Sep 30, 2009 That's really the best word I can use to describe the book. It's nothing stellar, not at all boring and just an overall decent read.
The details are fun while not getting terribly graphic or too sparse to be of interest. If you're a huge Cowboys fan, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, it's like late night cable to an adolescent boy; somewhat enticing while not blowing your socks off.

Warning about Audio Edition Jun 15, 2009 I listened to this book on CD and thought it was really interesting. I think Michael Irvin's life deserves a movie...
One note: The narrator of the audio edition is clearly not a football fan. You can tell because he absolutely butchers the pronunciations of name after name of the players. He obviously showed up at a studio cold to record this and did no background work. He narrates the story really well, but hearing him mangle "Steve Beuerlein" was an experience in itself! It partially became fun to see what he would come up with next, but it was also distracting from the story... and shockingly cheesey.
If there was ever a football team that deserved a book about it though, this certainly is the one!

Great book Jun 12, 2009 What a fascinating read. I would reccomend for anybody that wants to know what life as a professional athlete is really like. This book painted such a vivid description of just how different athletes are than regular people. I was amazed at how dysfunctional the Cowboys organization was during the 90's while still being considered the best franchise in sports during this time period.
