Good, Solid Release Jul 23, 2009
The first I heard of Chiodos was a few months ago when I was at a music festival and the friend I was with wanted to see them. I love all live music, and I didn't have any other band that I wanted to see at the time, so I went with him. And I was blown away.
After having now become a fan, and having listened to this album multiple times, I can say that I'm really quite pleased with this. If an album is written well, then I just can't stop listening to it, even if it's not necessarily something I normally listen to (I'm a bit more of an industrial metal girl, you see).
From start to finish, this album does not disappoint. To me, there are no filler tracks that you might get with most pop albums, and even some of the more mainstream rock albums. Everything fits together well, especially the way the typical rock instruments fit in so nicely with the piano, and even the strings on some occassions. There are still catchy songs (Lexington having my favourite hook) that you can bop and dance along to, and there are songs you can sing your heart out to (Lexington being another one of these), or have a bit of a scream to. I just can't help but turn my stereo up in the car when this is album is on.
It's an enjoyable listen, whether I'm in the mood for something heavy or something softer, and does not let me down when I put it on. I know that I'll be keeping my ear out for future releases from this band, keen to hear what they've come up with next.

Very good album, however different it may be from "All's Well That Ends Well." I must admit, at first listen I wasn't too impressed and focused heavily on comparing it to their last album. This, however, is not the way to go about understanding the true value of a release.
While Grand Coda may not be worth the extra cash to the casual listener, any Chiodos fan would be foolish to pass this up; The few extra tracks very much deserve a listen, and though I might not say this about albums very often, the acoustic tracks are kept interesting enough to compare to their non-acoustic partners.
Considering that Amazon.com does not allow for half-star's in their reviews, I will round up from 4.5 and give this a 5.

This is a great CD and the DVD is pretty awesome too. I don't like how they keep doing re-releases, but I'm glad I bought it. The new songs and the acoustic songs are amazing.
Everyday is a bone palace ballet Nov 01, 2008
I'm not into blogging and writing reviews as much as i'm into reading them... but I also have to defend Chiodos. I've seen them 3 times and hopefully i'll see them next weak. I'll admit that I like Bone palace ballet better than All's well ends well. I've seen them perform just that album and than their newer stuff, and the newer stuff had an ongoing theme that makes the album flow. Craig's singing improved in this one, and they sound more solid. I'm not reviewing Grand Coda, cuz I don't have it yet. But since Grand coda is a release than I partially heard almost every track. It's definetly worth it.. peace

Chiodos-Bone Palace Ballet *****
Being from my home town of Detroit, Michigan I thought I would give Chiodos a chance. This was the first album I found so I grabbed it. I wasn't disappointed in the slightest bit.
From the opening crys of 'Is It Progression If A Cannibal Uses A Fork' through the emotionality of 'I Didn't Say I Was Powerful, I Said I Was A Wizard' to the closing guitar drone of 'The Undertakers...' Bone Palace Ballet is a great album from a band that fits no genre. Juxtaposing classical with metal and acoustic balladry and intense hardcore vocals.
If something new and intense yet soulful is up your alley then Chiodos and Bone Palace Ballet just might be your thing. It is easily the best the best underground album of the last however many years. Highly recommended.
