Description:

Despite living in a generation of R&B females overshadowed by the indomitable Mary J. Blige, Blu Cantrell can hang. Blessed not only with a strong voice, but a jazzy style that comes across more subtly on this, her sophomore effort, than on 2001’s So Blu. Bittersweet finds her teamed at various points with a handful of hot producers, ubiquitous dancehall artist Sean Paul, and some predictable lyrics, but nonetheless showcases a supple vocalist with her own mind. At the same time, Cantrell recalls some of the best of her influences on the Stevie Wonder-like "No Place Like Home" and "Happily Ever After," which would’ve fit in on any number of Prince records. If Cantrell continues to get the attention she deserves, she may well prove to be an artist we’ll be following for decades. --Rickey Wright

5Blu's Bittersweet is Amazing  Jul 26, 2009
Bittersweet is one of my favorite R&B albums. I love how Blu Cantrell sings, she has an amazing voice. On some of the songs on Bittersweet they come out grab me, and touch me. The songs I Love You, Sleep in The Middle, and Risk it All are my favorite songs on Bittersweet. Since I am a big fan of Blu Cantrell, it's sad that she hasn't released another album yet. I think Blu Cantrell deserves a career in music. She is great at what she does. Her album sales may not be the best, but I think she should still be able to release another album for her fans out there that miss her so much, and love her to death. Blu I hope to hear a new album by you very soon, I'll be waiting.

4Wonderful  Feb 17, 2008
Outstanding voice & beautiful songs. Only a couple were radio-friendly, which I have no problems with. A solid album. I'm curious as to why this album wasn't promoted better or harder. It was nominated for Female R&B Album at the following year's Grammy Awards. I see why!

5Don't Be Fooled  Aug 08, 2007
I am giving the VOICE 5 stars. The CD gets about 4 1/2. Don't let that light skin and centerfold sex kitten image of Blu fool you. She not only can sing, she has a powerful voice. More R & B (a little less hip hop) and a few more tightly written songs and you would have to put her next to Kelly Price in your collection. Some would still say she belongs there now. And really, the CD is good too! The listening samples here do not do it justice. Trust, there is no one on the r&b/hip scene today who can touch this voice! She even has legit jazz skills!

5WOW SHOCK~~~~  Dec 22, 2006
She has a voice that is amazing and she sounds really great. How is it that we don't see her at all performing or receiving any awards??? That is a surprise to me I love Blu Cantrell when she first came out I enjoy her music. I just don't get the industry to not have her out there doing anything with an album as great as this??

5I'd Rather Sleep In The Middle  Oct 08, 2006
Reflecting on some of the great songs of the past sends you right back to cd's like 'Bittersweet'. Packed with great vocals and great lyrics. I thought 'Sleep in the middle' would have been a huge hit. Music is suffering and why are the great ballads being passed over for one note, one beat songs. How did Mariah manage to sell so many copies of ' Mimi'? Why is Blu not doing so well. Mariah can sing but her songs have little emotion. Blu is the complete opposite. Help someone, please help the music industry. Help the great singers to reach platinum - please promote them well. I am looking forward to more music from Blu.
