Description:

After a string of mediocre movies, director Tim Burton regains his footing as he shifts from macabre fairy tales to Southern tall tales. Big Fish twines in and out of the oversized stories of Edward Bloom, played as a young man by Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge, Down with Love) and as a dying father by Albert Finney (Tom Jones). Edward's son Will (Billy Crudup, Almost Famous) sits by his father's bedside but has little patience with the old man's fables, because he feels these stories have kept him from knowing who his father really is. Burton dives into Bloom's imagination with zest, sending the determined young man into haunted woods, an idealized Southern town, a traveling circus, and much more. The result is sweet but--thanks to the director's dark and clever sensibility--never saccharine. Also featuring Jessica Lange, Alison Lohman, Helena Bonham Carter, Danny DeVito, and Steve Buscemi. --Bret Fetzer

5Loved it!  Oct 22, 2009
I love this movie! Its my favorite Tim Burton film! It not only has a fantastic cast, but a brilliant story. Its also a lot of fun. It captures the relationship between a father and son and how the son tries to decipher fact from fiction of his father's life. Ewan MacGrower was just fantastic and the rest of the cast delivered great performances. There a million reasons why I believe that this film was Tim Burton's (besides Beetlejuice) best film. Its totally recommend!

2Dirrrrty  Aug 27, 2009
The case and the DVD was extremely dirty. Although, under the description it said a little dirty...I wasn't expecting what I got. The DVD had a thick layer of dirt/dust, it was disgusting. I don't even know how a DVD can look like that. It would have been easy for the owner to take a quick wipe to it so the buyer (me) didn't have to deal with that. Gross.

But unexpectedly the DVD did work...so...I'm not that mad.

5Beautifully Stunning Story That will take your breath away  Aug 12, 2009
There is nothing like this movie. Its imaginative beautiful funny and the actors are the best. If I were to be trapped on a island with one movie I would pick this one. A classic must have that you will never forget.

5Very Moving  Jun 26, 2009
if you hate this film you ultimately hate life, people who find it boring just have short attention spans, not a single moment was it ever boring, its a sweet sentimental movie about father and son, you must be extremely cold hearted and stupid to find this movie boring and unmoving. Don't expect this to be a typical Tim Burton movie, its quite different and it just proves that he can break out of his neo-gothic style that he is famous for, I mean I love all his work, and its great to see him try new things.

4If it's not, it ought to be!  May 25, 2009
A Cult film, that is. A wonderfully non-conventional bit of story-telling that should be thoroughly enjoyed! Why settle for a "just-the-facts-ma'am" kind of life when you can add so much more to the story in the telling. Edward Bloom (Ewan McGregor/Albert Finney) becomes the quintessential opposite of Charles Dicken's Josiah Bounderby of "Hard Times." In "Big Fish" the facts, like gold, are where you find them, and Edward Blooms endless stream of "fish stories" may have more facts than his son, William (Billy Crudup) is willing to credit them for. So William, tired of dad's "fish stories," goes on a fact-finding mission to learn where his father's reality ends and where truth begins. What the son learns changes everything for him, maybe you too. Worth more than one viewing, so it's worth owning!
