Full of Errors Nov 11, 2009 This book had so many grammatical errors, mis-used words and inconsistancies I actually e-mailed the publisher to complain, something I've never done before. I can think of no excuse for an English teacher and Journalism major to be putting out a product for young adult readers with obvious mistakes such as incorrect verb tenses.
The main character and her female friends repeatedly make fun of their gay male friend for using words longer than two sylables and define these words for the reader. Come on, if they're old enough to be reading this book give the readers a little credit for having a vocabulary somewhat appropriate to their age group!
Add to the mix overtones of pedophilia with an adult teacher romantically stalking the heroine, a morally smug protagonist referring to her enemies as "ho" while she herself interacts with every interesting male in the book, constant use of the word "poo" and it's really hard to recommend this other than as a beach read for bored adults. If you can pick it up cheap at Costco it might be a satisfying light read.
The house of Night series Oct 27, 2009 I've read the first four books in this series. (I'm 39 years old, they should really stop listing these books as "Young Adults", my friends love them too. They limit their readers that way.)
The only thing I didn't care for was that they explain in the next book too much of what happened in the previous one. I understand why they do it, but if people didn't read them in order thats their problem.
Good detail Oct 27, 2009 I am already on the 4th book in the series, so I kind of remember the 2nd book. But so far All the books in the series have had a good flow to them. And leaving me with the feelings of, wanting more. In the 2nd book the "Cast woman" seem to only scratch the surface of Zoey Rebird. I would not start reading this book, unless you have time to read all of the books. The House of Night Novels well suck you into their world.
It's called "Betrayed" for a reason... Oct 24, 2009 WOW! I've purposely kept myself from reading any reviews of these books until I finished reading them to keep the story a surprise and it definitely was!
Truth be told, the book started out kind of slow. Actually, I was a little let down with the first 2/3 of it. Zoey is finding her place at HON and has surrounded herself with a great group of friends. But then people she knows from her former life start disappearing and it all points to a vampyre. Quite honestly, I felt at first like this was being dragged out and nothing was really happening to find out why people were disappearing and who was behind it. But once the action started, things were finally starting to shape up and we learn of what's really going on.
There wasn't a whole lot of character development for me. The only people we really learned more about was Aphrodite and Nephret. In the first book I just knew that I wasn't going to like Aphrodite's character at all but after this book I think I'm changing my mind. We learn why she acts the way she does and does some of the things that she does. We also learn a bit about her family and that explains A LOT! Nephret's part in this book is very telling as well. I can't really say more than that without giving anything away but I can't wait to see what happens next with her.
Zoey is discovering more about her powers and her connection with the goddess Nix and that's a big part of her story in this book. I've read in some reviews that her love triangle (or maybe quandrangle?) was bothersome to some readers. For me, it really didn't even phase me. She's a 16 yo. I think that was down perfectly and I remember times like that.
All in all, a pretty good book. The last 1/3 more than makes up for the first 2/3 and I will for sure continue reading the series.

Awesome Oct 22, 2009 This book series is amazing. There is some sexual content and some language. However, it is a truely well writen series.
