Ben Kweller (self titled) CD Jan 21, 2008 This is a great cd throughout! Every song has a creative melody along with creative lyrics. I love the versatility from the guitar-driven "I gotta move" and the fast tempo "Penny on a train track" to the greatest piano ballad ever in "Thirteen". And many mid-tempo songs like "Run", "Nothing Happening", "I don't know why" and not to forget "Sundress". I loved the harmonica solo in "Thirteen", it added a musical depth to the simple piano/singer arrangement, and I look forward to hearing more harmoncia from BK in the future. If you like The Carpenters, "Until I Die" will capture your interest.
I've been a "johnny-come-lately" concerning BK's music and the past 6 months I've been on a BK cd binge. "Sha Sha", "On My Way" and "Ben Kweller" are all great cd's that gives you more than your money's worth! If you appreciate the entire work of The Beatles, more specifically, Paul McCartney, you will love this album. I believe he played every instrument on this cd too---much like Paul McCartney.
He did it again Sep 08, 2007 BK just won't quit making wonderful albums! His 3rd major album release still isn't akin to the energy and rock anthems of Sha Sha, but its okay people, its okay. Ben played every instrument on this album and it shows his true essence. There seems to be much more instrumental layering in this album. All songs are crisp and still have the charm that has made him so great. The songs are ambitious, nostalgic, and catchy. This album is somewhat more 'grown up' than his others, in that he loses some of his quirkyness, but as a coming-of-age musician, that is expected to happen. This album is strong, and classic. Get it now.
I am in LOVE! Sep 04, 2007 I fell instantly in love with Ben and his music when I saw him perform! He is ultra talented, that man can sing! I can't wait for more...bring it on!
Great album by Ben Kweller Aug 14, 2007 Ben Kweller's self-titled album shows how much he has matured over the past few years. His music engages the listen with its catchy tunes, such as "Run" and "Penny on a Train Track." This album would not be a disappointment to anyone who likes his Sha Sha and On My Way albums. I've had this album for nearly a whole year, and haven't tired of it yet. Every track on the album are equally good, not like some other artists where just a few tracks are good.
Have It Your Way Aug 13, 2007 When some hardcore Ben Kweller fans picked up his latest self titled, they were disappointed, comparing it too much to their beloved quirky Sha Sha or the catchy On My Way. But, it's been five whole years since Sha Sha...five years for Ben to get married, have a kid, grow up. Of course, when watching BK perform these songs live, you realize he hasn't grown up in the boring old Peter-Pan-no-imagination way. He's just able to pull off those unique ballads with a bit more grace this time. Not to mention, he plays every instrument on the album. I can't wait until the next one!
