If this is the 1963 edition -- Jun 24, 2008 .. get it! And if you can find the Fine Arts Quartet recordings (originally on Concert Disc lps) from a few years earlier, get those, too.
I copied my lp set to CDs, putting quartets 3,4,and 5 together on the second of 3 discs; the third disc holds the 6th Quartet, coupled with a Rudolph Barshai recording of Bartok's Divertimento for Strings, duplicating the program of the 3-disk Tatrai set of Bartok quartets.
I give 4 stars for breaking the 4th quartet over two discs. Musically, if this measures up to the lps on most equipment, it deserves 5 stars.

The 2001 French Sony transfers of the celebrated 1963 recordings. Jan 06, 2008 Despite the picture on the slipcase, this is the 1963 recording of the cycle, with Mann, Cohen, Hillyer, and Adam. In fact, inside the slipcase is the 2001 French Sony release of the 1963 cycle in a slimline jewel box. Quartet No. 4 is split across the 2 discs.
The transfers sound very good to my ears, at least compared to my CBS Masterworks Lps.
