3OK album, but only one true highlight  Mar 18, 2009
I have a lot of respect for Cassidy as an MC because, at his best, he's a phenomenal lyricist. His strength is definitely freestyling, though. For instance, I have listened to "Split Personality", "I'm a Hustla" and "B.A.R.S" and they were all decent releases, but none of those albums exceed decency. However, when I hear his freestyles, I am always impressed. It's truly amazing to hear what he comes up with when he has to do an impromptu rhyme.

I knew I had to listen to "B.A.R.S" because someone kept speaking about the last song on the disc called "All by Myself." He urged me to listen to the track, and when I did, I was really touched. "All by Myself", like most of the tracks on the album, show a more mature, more adult Cassidy. He mentions God a number of times. "Leanin' on the Lord" is mostly about Him. Though the song as a whole is pretty weak, one can't help but appreciate his apparent reverence for our higher power. He also talks about his desire to leave the street life alone and his determination to be a good father to his son. That is what I took from the album. As a unit, it is alright, but it won't be played in my CD player much. Most of the hooks and beats are sub par, but his lyrics are profound and clever. "All by Myself" is this album's sole jewel. What makes this song special is the fact that he produced and wrote it alone. Too, he mentions his legal troubles at length. He said that his mother told him to "keep the faith and you'll beat this case." "My Drink and My 2 Step" was released to radio and although it received a good amount of airplay, I never cared for the track.

I granted this LP three stars, which means that it is decent. There are only two or three dance tracks, the rest of the songs have either a mid-tempo or slow tempo. Fans of Cassidy should pick this album up, but it's not necessary for a CD collector.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "All by Myself"
2. "Cash Rulez" (Track # 7)
3. "Damn I Miss the Game"
4. "Done 4 Me"
5. Where My N****s At"

3One word . . . . . . .meh...  Mar 12, 2008
Y'know, I bought this with fairly high expectations after 'drink n my 2 step' dropped, but the rest of the CD didnt really follow through like I'd hoped. It wasnt too bad, I dont regret buying it or anything, I just expected a bit more. Cassidy's got a good flow, he's a very talented artist, but the CD as a whole just couldnt keep me interested as well as a lot of others that are out right now

5Cassidy is the man  Feb 09, 2008
I've been listening to lil wayne a lot, but someone told me to listen to some Cassidy. I listened to one track off of B.A.R.S. and decided to buy the whole album cause of how good "All By Myself" is. Cassidy actually made the beats, claps, and produced the whole track by himself.

Cassidys' the truth. One of the best albums I've ever heard.

3Cassidy - B.A.R.S.: The Barry Adrian Reese Story   Jan 29, 2008
Philadelphia Rapper Cassidy returns with his third solo album "B.A.R.S: The Barry Adrian Reese Story" (2007) a fourteen track release which features guest appearances from Swizz Beatz, Shizlansky, Mark Morrison, Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, Eve, Angie Stone, K'Sharee, Mashonda & John Legend. Cassidy A.K.A. Barry Adrian Reese has been through a lot of drama since his last album, I remember when that one came out he was up on Murder charges, which were later reduced to involuntary manslaughter & aggravated assault charges. Cassidy served his time, and sometime after his release was involved in a near fatal car accident. The lead single on this release is the Swizz Beatz produced "My Drink n My 2 Step" where Cassidy celebrates being out and talks about recent events in his life. The poorly produced "Where My ****** At" follows, with Cassidy dropping some grimy lyrics. Cassidy drops a track about never snitching on "I Will Never Tell (Uh Uh)" then teams up with Shiz Lansky on the slow "I Pray" praying for better days. Cassidy does his own rendition of "Innocent Man" (Misunderstood) Feat. Mark Morrison, talking about the drama he went through. Hi-Tek produced "Cash Rules" follows and features appearances from Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony & Eve, Bone uses the famous Wu chorus with limited success. "Leanin On The Lord" is one of the track's that standouts on this release for me, Cassidy backed by some soulful vocals from Angie Stone, puts his storytelling skills to work delivering a quality track. Cassidy addresses the state of the Rap Game remembering better times on "Damn I Miss the Game" referencing various artists and providing his own chorus. On the Dready produced upbeat standout "Done 4 Me", Cassidy celebrates being alive, thanks god, and talks about being a father. Swizz Beatz other contribution on this release is ""I Get My Paper", I did not think much of the lead single, same can be said for this one. "Take A Trip" is a laidback collaboration with female R & B singer Mashonda. John Legend appears on "Celebrate" another mellow joint & then Cassidy closes the album off with "All By Myself" a track he produced, an introspective creation where Cassidy rhymes about being on solo and not needing anyone but god. "B.A.R.S.: The Barry Adrian Reese Story" is a decent release.
