Not a big fan Oct 23, 2009 I liked the YES products, their first two albums were really good. This product was mixed very badly, and the songs are very weak. But I'm a big E.L.P. fan, but I'm also a recording engineer too. This product should have been thought out alittle bit better. That's just my opinion. I was never a big Rick Wakeman fan, and I've listened to some of his other works. I can't really recommend this product to others, it just doesn't cut the mustard.
I've worked with other musicians who just throw some crap together and kick it out the door. Sorry guys, you should have taken some time to put together a better production. This product doesn't show a good investment of your time.
But nither did some of the E.L.P. products, every dog has his day. Alot of times this happens due to label presure to put out a product on a deadline.
Sorry mates, maybe next time.
Yes or No? Jun 16, 2009 If you like most of the albums YES have put out over the last 35 years or so then this disk has to be part of your collection. It's not as guitar heavy as the Rabin produced albums, (Steve Howe is terrific), but more like Fragile, Close to the Edge, Topogaphic style. I think it stands up as one of the best they have done. My only criticism is that the bass is not mixed up high enough as is the case when Squire is involved (he and Tony Levin are my favourite bass players, along with John Wetton in King Crimson days). Don't be put off by some blinkered YES snobs, with such a rich and varied output from one of the most talented and creative bands of all time, ABWH is not a disappointment. Yes or no? YES!
Great Music, Great Band!! May 11, 2009 Hmmm, how do I put it. If your a fan of early YES from records like "time and word" your going to have a rude awakening with this one. This isn't exactly classic prog like YES is known for however, there are amazing songs on here performed by YES musicians. Tony Levin fills in on Bass, playing his chapman stick and electric upright bass. Some hardcore YES fans won't enjoy his contribution but as a bass Player myself, I can find much to enjoy regarding Levin's tracks. I enjoy all the songs here. especially "Fist of Fire" and "Brother Of Mine". There is a song on here called "Teakbois" which has this latin/carribean feel and then transitions into a celtic song. I think that is quite unique coming from YES. Whether your a YES fan, or music fan, this a great record with great music by a great band!
Definitely Yes Apr 06, 2009 I remember owning this as an album thirty years ago, and purchased it from Amazon as a CD. It is a great Yes album, and if you like Yes I can't see how you wouldn't love this album. The music is incredibly complex and the lyrics as spacey as any Yes album ever. This is a must have for any Yes fan. The only problem is the packaging, which was pretty elaborate as an album, as I recall, but in its present incarnation there are no lyrics or anything else. I would say get this soon, if you have been thinking about it, because this CD could easily go out of print, or so it seems to me, as music from this time period disappears.
AWSOME! Oct 02, 2008 I lost this one so I'm gonna have to buy it... It's very profound, bold, couragous, and even silly (for those who don't understand Yes' veiwpoint). There is more to life than pop music, war and decline.
As a classical sympany, the highs and lows are exhilerating, unlike such, there is definately an underlining of hard rock. I don't quite understand their viewpoint either, but I think its very spiritual too...
I don't know if they would agree on a bestsolarvision , they may find it to centralist (but would create a green grid) which would give no more excuse for war and CO2 emissions. And I do know that Yes (Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe and/or others), hate war!
So promote the cause, stimulate your ears and buy what I think is one of the best musical compilations of all time!
