Delectible Voice Jan 25, 2010 I heard a single by Editors and was enthralled by Tom Smith's voice - then I purchased this album and it is sublime. Each and every song is perfect and Tom Smith's voice is the catalyst - simply thrilling. I have listened to it every day since I purchased this album and have not become the least bit bored with it. Highly recommended - 5 stars.
love love love Dec 28, 2009 Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors makes me want to turn it up loud stretch out my arms and spin around and around catching the wind. Beautiful and epic! Tom Smith could sing me to sleep every night! If you are just discovering Editors this is a great album to start with. I promise if you are not already in love you will be.
Seldom standouts Aug 19, 2009 An obvious enjoyment if one is inclined towards the Interpol aesthetic, this sophomore is overall a solid indie guitar release, but its solidness is mildly generic and forgettable amidst a few glaring gleams of melody.
The album is GREAT! Jul 19, 2009 I just discovered this band on Pandora Radio - on the Interpol station that I created. The singer had that Paul Banks-like quality and it was obvious that the lead singer was influenced by Joy Division as well. I fell in love with their music immediately. The songwriting on this CD is just fantastic. Dark, beautiful, melancholic. As soon as it was delivered, I listened to it all the time and still never got tired of it. To me, that's a clear indication of solid songwriting and musical direction/production.
If you like Interpol, you'll LOVE these guys, too. No doubt.
If you're a Joy Division fan, be prepared for a more polished production of accessible and melodious songs that this CD is packed with.
A GREAT CD!!!

Disappointing- sack the extra guitarist! Dec 01, 2008 The so-called lead guitarist is a one-trick pony. On virtually every track here, he sounds like an electrified gondolier, as he plays one treble string or 2-3 treble string chords rapidly at a high pitch. How annoying! The band and/or manager could take some serious clues from Joy Division, to whom they are favorably compared, but the Editors don't yet deserve it. I'd like to see the vocalist/rhythm guitarist take over the lead guitar duties, and sack the current lead guitarist, who's only job seems to be to have a black guitar, and look cool. It is very possible for ONE guitarist to alternate and integrate between chording, riffing, and leads, as Joy Division's did, to great effect. This is more about creativity than technical ability; in fact creativity IS essential, and nobody needs to be a guitar hero anymore, as far as leads go. The result would be a tight little 3-piece band, and a vocalist that can play guitar in harmony with himself, rather than having someone extraneous who plays at cross-purposes. As Joy Division proved, the music can often be more powerful when there is some space in the grooves, and the bass and drums can therefore play roles equal to the guitar and vocals. Editors have more talent in the bass and drum departments than they do in the current lead guitar, anyway. Love that Rickenbacher bass!
