2Yung Berg - Almost Famous EP   Aug 06, 2007
Yung Berg (A.K.A. Christian Howard) makes his public entrance into the Rap game with the "Almost Famous EP" (2007) a six track release which precedes his upcoming debut solo album "Look What You Made Me". The Chicago Rapper recieves support from Junior, JFK, Tony Loc, Twista, Jim Jones, Rich Boy, Nikki Flores. Yung Berg's first single is "Sexy Lady", Berg rhyme's are less then remarkable, the highlight of the track though comes from up and coming California singer Junior who laces the track with some outstanding vocals. I am looking forward to hearing to seeing Junior develop as an artist and recently heard a impressive track from him called "Change For The Better". "Into It" is another collaboration cut which features appearances from JFK & Tony Loc -a typical track about being a travelling rapper and having groupies. Yung Berg then collaborates with veteran Rap MC and fellow Chicago native Twista on "Where Do We Go" - Berg rhymes with a speedy flow, Twista follows it up with his own fastpaced trademark contribution. Yung Berg's only track on solo on this release is the mediocre title track "Almost Famous" - which is about Berg's hustle to make it in the Rap game. The "Sexy Lady" (Remix) includes contributions from Rich Boy and Jim Jones, no one brings anything new to the table, though having three MC's on the cut is more entertaining then one to me. New singer Nikki Flores and Yung Berg team up for a bland collaboration in "Painkiller". I think "Sexy Lady" will be Yung Berg's saving grace and will help him get some recognition/record sales, as a relatively young artist (21 years old) he still has time to step up his game lyrically and will need to do so if he wants more then fifteen minutes of fame.

22 stars just because of the single......  Jul 31, 2007
First off, let me say this, and this is gonna make some people furious I am sure, but on some of these tracks the way Berg sounds, he reminds me of Lil Wayne. Seeing how I think that Lil Wayne is whack anyways, maybe it's not such a bad comparison. Some of the stuff he says is just like Lil Wayne in that he will say one line, and then follow up with something totally unrelated that doesn't even make sense, it just happens to rhyme.

This EP starts off strong (if that is the appropriate word, it depends on how you feel about the single Sexy Lady) and then goes straight down the crapper and never looks back.

Just like almost all other new rappers, Yung Berg says absolutely nothing witty or original, on the song Almost Famous his verses would be comparable to Fabolous if he threw in some interesting metaphors/similies/analogies....but he does none of the above. Why Twista agreed to be on Where Do We Go is beyond me, why would you associate yourself with this clown? Doesn't really matter because even his verse is really generic and bland.

I thought maybe the remix would be good, but Jim Jones is whack as usual, Berg's new verse is just like the rest of his verses on the CD, nothing special, and the previous two makes Rich Boy's turn on the mic look like a highlight.

Even if you are someone that only pays attention to beats you can't give this EP much credit, the best are the Sexy Lady and Where Do We Go.....the last track, Painkiller, apparently isn't even a Yung Berg song but some R&B song by Nikki Flores. He drops a very forgettable verse, i don't even think its a full 16 bars. The beat on the song is average, but for me, as I get ready to throw on the new Common CD, an average beat isn't gonna save a darn thing, you gotta say somethin worth our time.

The best advice anyone can give Yung Berg is to pull this off the shelves and put Sexy Lady on his full CD in the fall - go back to the drawing board and think of something creative to say sohis debut doesn't bomb.
