Very Good Dec 02, 2008 Noel Gourdin has renewed my faith in R&B. Outside of Maxwell it's just plain bad in my view. Cookie cutters are the norm. I feel this album really picks up at track 6. Lead You On, Reach and I fell really grab me to the point where I'm in my car bopping my head singing along. Most of the songs are mid tempo love songs with a steady beat behind that gets your head pumping but still feel that sense of love. I've been away from R&B awhile because of the lack of talent but I see the talent has moved into what's called Neo-Soul. Whatever that means. Genre terms are so stupid. All in all it's a good album. Hooks draw you in to what he is saying in each song. Not bad lyrics here. Not a lot of slang terms. I'm showing my age with that comment but I hate love songs with a ton of slang words thrown around. Nice poetry is what I like (ahem, cough ...MAXWELL)...LOL. Nice vocals here as well. I hope he does well and I look forward to his second release.
"Sorry" Nov 23, 2008 When I first heard the song "The River" I was reluctant because Steve Harvey was pushing it on his morning show back in the Summer of 2007. I got a cal from a friend of mine saying that he would be producing a song for Noel Gourdin's album. I was so still reluctant and kept my "Chopped and Skrewed" mind in the unsanitary world of rap and lost world of R&B. The album was released and I skipped past it at Best Buy. Then I heard the song "SORRY". MY GOSH!!!! It was like Musiq Soulchilds "MaryGoRound", you know the HIT that will never be released and your album favorite! Well this song sold me...the lyrical content was lost because I was stuck in the production of this song, then the bass line reminded me of "A Tribe Called Quests" hit back in '94. Then the background arrangement was as emotional as the lead vocal arrangement, so convincing. The vocals were tellig me that he was "Sorry" about something, which made me listen to the lyrics of this song.....SOLD!!!!! The falsetto at the end of the song. If you are a fan of "REAL MUSIC" then this the album to have! I just get stuck on one song because it's my favorite. Lisa Ellis and the staff did an excellent job with this album. Let it ride for a year like Jill Scott did...it may take some time but this isn't an album for the quick hit, #1 Smash song movement, 1 million records sold in a week deal...this is a record that can spread internationally in 18 months.
Sing To Me!!! Nov 23, 2008 This is an ecellent CD. I listen to it just about every day in my iPod, car, and home. It just makes me move and smile.
Refreshing Music Mix Oct 24, 2008 WOW, "After My Time", where shall I begin? E-V-E-R-Y CD track on this project is the BOMB to me!! This youthful artist exhibits an exceptional natural & creative gift to arrange sounds that integrate hip-hop style & old school R&B soul (namely The Dynamic Superiors and Norman Connors) rhythms, harmonies, melodies, and lyrics that are exceptionally pleasing to this listener. The debut of "The River" on the Steve Harvey radio broadcast prompted me to purchase the CD and I was most impressed when I discovered the songful genius that is Noel Gourdin!! New to the national music scene, this modest brother (I've met him) undoubtedly already had "arrived" long before the release of this Masterpiece. If I seem to appear partial, What Can I Say? It Is What It Is. I am extremely elated that I moved beyond unfamiliarity to find this admirably refreshing music mix....an AWESOME production that is HIGHTLY RECOMMENDED!!
FANTASTIC!! Oct 21, 2008 This is one of my favorite CDs. I was so excited about it, I shared it with my husband; unfortunately, he didn't share my enthusiasm. But I don't even care, because that just means I get to listen to it that much more since I don't have to share with him. This cat is phenomenal!! I'd say my favorite cut is "Led You On" and a close second is "PYT". Our 9 year old son really likes "The River" and enjoys singing along with it. (He's an old soul who likes the sound of "old school" music.) I'm already anxiously awaiting his next CD.
