2 Bonus Tracks Deliver A Solid R&B Album! Sep 28, 2009 This is the Japanese Import version of Afrodisiac and features 2 bonus tracks--"Finally" and "Nodding off". Featured artists include Kanye West, Timbaland and T.I. Brandy has a beautiful soft listener-friendly style that combined with the music is like a breath of fresh air. All her albums have something special to offer. This one is quite a sensation for its down-to-earth qualities, positive messages, and self-respect themes. The melody is soothing, positive, and full of sensational styles to feel new, invigorated, and alive again!
"Nodding Off" [Bonus Track] is definitely an excellent track as it has many messages that are empowering, easily relatable, and enjoyable. It's about a girl waiting for her man but him never showing up. The hook is: "Don't try to call me cause the ringer's off, don't try to page me my 2 way is lost, I had a Jones for ya but it seems you're lost/I tried to wait for ya but I'm nodding off."
"Finally" [Bonus Track] has much bounce and catchy beats as Brandy's vocals have much emphasis on being strong and learning from the past since it's time to say: "Stop! Look around is this where you belong? Look at your "self", are you weak, are you strong? ... Finally I walked away never would've seen this day giving up on those things that hurt me/Made me who I am today..." This has a featured male artist in the beginning of the song and has a much hip-hop vibe definitely a huge plus! There are background vocals with this other male artist a times thus giving it a nice deeper edge to reinforce the words to the song.
The opening track, "Who I Am", is a strong introduction of how a woman is strong despite a not so good situation. Some lyrics are: "Thank you for all the tears, stress, you're the best...I'm a better woman now... this experience made me who I am..."
The second track, "Afrodisiac" takes a different turn stressing how that special someone fulfills desires, takes the moods higher, and makes the effect to be like a prisoner to love.
And if you want to move into a different direction, "I Tried" has Brandy's vocals sounding quite different like Keyshia Cole to some degree on some portions. The melody is soft smooth R&B with deep lyrics, nice chorus, and catchy hooks. She questions herself, "Did I drive you away?" It's apparent that letting go is not easy like the track title, "I Tried".
Another favorite, "Come As You Are" stresses the importance of being yourself and not getting so worked up about being someone different.
Some favorites with featured artists are "Talk About Our Love" feat. Kanye West and "Where You Wanna Be" featuring T.I. Both having a nice hip-hop bouncy type effect. The way the featured artists do their rhymes are definitely off the hook. The themes get intensified and the varying vocals are an excellent compliment to avoid an entire album of one particular style.
For Timbaland fans, also quite catchy is, "Who Is She To You" with Timbaland. The production has much bounce and excellence. It's a definite catchy song with appeal, pizzaz, and funk. He is also featured in the track titled, "Sadiddy" also showing once again his touches of bounce, swagger, and Brandy's beautiful vocals on the mark.
On the whole, the fact her messages are sung so emotionally soulful combined with the themes of loving yourself and being strong make this a much inspiring listening experience! The 2 bonus tracks are a must for fans and a much added enjoyable addition.
3 for 3 Jul 28, 2006 Since Brandy's voice has matured, I will put her against Mary J., Monica, Faith, all other women in the same Hip-Hop/R&B category. The beats on her albums are always hitting, and the soulful ballads are deep. You gotta recognize she is going 3 for 3 now with: Never Say Never, Full Moon, and now Afrodisiac. I can listen to all her Albums from cover to cover and not grow bored to quickly.
