Description:

The debut release from a 26-year-old Californian who blends jazz and soul with a smokey ease reminiscent of Sade, Deniece Williams, and Minnie Riperton is a satisfying album. Evans wrote all the lyrics, which often examine the gap between the way things should be and the way they are. The first single is "Reality," a jazzy, vibraphone-flavored track that finds Evans contrasting the world of poverty and violence outside her L.A. window with her dreamed-of utopia where she can find "my peace of mind." The likely follow-up single is "Seeing Is Believing," which boasts an irresistible singalong chorus, the stern admonition, "Don't say you love me if you're leaving," and a dreamy scat interlude where Evans seems lost between anger and desire. "Adriana Evans" marks the arrival of a major talent. --Geoffrey Himes

5Review of Singer, NOT the Album  Nov 21, 2009
I can't offer a review of the album because I haven't heard all of the tracks. I have, however, listened to many of the songs by this wonderful artist spanning all four of her albums. If you are considering getting this album or any other, I do not think you will be disappointed!

Adriana Evans style and talent is something lacking in current music. She's reportedly one of the first neo-soul artists, and I'd like to add one of the best. Not only is her voice talent supremely awesome, the music and composition to her songs is fantastic, a far-cry from the simple and mundane studio work we hear today. Some descriptions compare her to Erykah Badu, Minnie Riperton, and many others. To say she's an amalgam of other albeit great artists simply doesn't do her justice. She is a uniqueness unto herself, and I hope she comes back to blow the current music scene out the water.

I dish all this praise quite sincerely; I had not heard of Evans or any of her music until I heard the title track to the "Noah's Arc" LOGO series. I fell in love then, and when I discovered her other tracks I knew I had been missing out on someone great. A few of my personal faves:

Calling Me
Midnight in Bahia
Underneath the Stars
Remember Love/Remember the Love ( the title track that hooked me)

So again I say, if you're already looking for her, and even if you're not, Adriana Evans won't disappoint.

The CD was not one of my favorite. Perhaps, it is best suited for a younger audience rather than a middle aged woman.

5What an undiscovered gem  Oct 08, 2007
Quite by accident I stumbled across Adriana Evans - now I'm telling everyone I know about her. She's an undiscovered gem. There isn't a bad song on this CD - very smooth and enjoyable to listen to. My favorite track is "Say You Won't"

5THE MOST UNDER-RATED NEO SOUL ALBUM OF ALL TIME!!!   Sep 21, 2007
Back in 1997, neo soul was resurected from a artist who pulled grammy awards with her groundbreaking debut. That artist today is known as Erykah Badu, and though that album was a commercial success, I disagreed with the masses when I discovered Adriana Evans. I happen to be watching The Box Music Network (yeah, ya'll I went back with that one) and someone requested her "Seein is Believin" video, and I was blown away. I went and bought her album (which at the time was soo hard to find), and after one listen she had me. Now, I'm not saying that she is better than Erykah Badu, however, this album was by far the best soul album of 1997 that was highly overlooked.

Top notch production from underrated soul producer Dred Scott, this album gives you authentic soul with a hip hop edge that everyone can vibe, step, and groove too. "Love is all Around", the head knocking "Reality", "Hey Brother", "Love Me", "Swimming", "In the Sun" just nothing but smooth classic soul that neo soul lovers crave. "Trippin" and "I'll be There" slows the tempo down, not too much, but just right to keep the overall tone of the album fresh and smooth. The only knock, and this is me nit picking, but she can hit the high pitches a little bit too much and can get irritating to casual music listeners, but for those neo heads out there, it shouldn't bother you one bit.

5 stars. A must have!! A masterpiece!!! Go Get It!!

5CLASSIC ALBUM  Jun 10, 2007
Adriana Evans is one of the most underrated soul artists of her time. This album is very classic since it has a smooth jazzy smooth to it, the lyrics are meaningful, and she can sing very well. I recommend this album for the ones who love smooth jazz music.
