5Stirring and movingly beautiful score  Feb 23, 2003
Saw the IMAX film three times and had to find this wonderful soundtrack. The music will simply transport you, it is so perfectly matched to the mood and feeling of the film. This is a heartfelt look at immigrants coming to New York in the early 1900's when my own grandfolks arrived from Europe. It is told via a narrator reading letters to his mama and papa back in Russia and the little boy who stars in this film is captivating in his expressions of joy, sadness, fear and anticipation. If you can get your hands on the tape, buy it! If not just enjoy this soundtrack -- truly beautiful music.

5Barry Paints a Vivid Picture of Turn of the Century NYC  Jun 06, 2000
Across the Sea of Time is a beautifully told and crafted IMAX movie and which tells a young boy's story of immigration into NYC in the late 19th Century. Much of the movie is based on stereoscopic photos from the period, all done in 3D. We stumbled upon the movie by accident, but once I heard the music, it etched the story permanently in my mind and I had to find the soundtrack. Friends who have heard the CD, but never saw the movie, remark about the how beautiful the score is. If you like Dances With Wolves' soundtrack, you'll like Across the Sea of Time.

5Another masterpiece by John Barry  Sep 07, 1999
Just listened to this CD for the first time yesterday evening. Have not seen the movie since in Germany it is hard to get, but the music is very beautiful (as expected from John Barry) and works very well even without the movie.

5enchanting melodies  Jan 16, 1999
I had first heard this soundtrack during the intermission of another IMAX movie. I was immediatley mesmerized by its sweeping melodies and themes. I also took a guess that it was no other that John Barry who had composed such wonderful music. This IMAX soundtrack has simply scrumptious songs by John Barry and feature some of his best work to date. The songs are very tranquil and relaxing. Some are romantic while others are symbolically sad. All these varying moods are conveyed through Barry's excellent compositions. Fans of Barry may recognize one particular theme that was previously composed for his Moviola compilation. Though this cd risks being a sleeper, because the film has not been seen by many, it should not be disregarded. This is truly magical stuff!

5The music provides feelings of nostalgia and times past  Nov 12, 1998
For one to really appreciate the mood and feeling in this selection, it would be good to first have the opportunity to view the Imax 3-D movie of the same name. That doesn't mean it is necessary to have seen the movie and the associated sound track. This music selection stands on its own. The music was composed by John Barry who also conducted the English Chamber Orchestra. The movie and the music have achieved something of a cult following. This is a result, perhaps, due to the extraordinary presentation of the movie and sound track in the Imax environment.
