So disappointing. Mar 11, 2010 After reading so many of these books to get to Acheron and this is who you pair him with? Tori has to be the lamest character I have read in my life let alone the ONE that you pair with Acheron. To say I was disappointed is really an understatement. There is nothing, not even remotely special about this chick and you give her to the best character in the whole series.
I gave it two stars because the backstory or first half of the book was pretty good. I like his back story and I'm glad we learn so much about him, but that sorry second half. Artemis should have saved us all and cut the chicks head off!! And frankly, Acheron would not have missed her much if she had, there is no reason for him too.
I don't think I can read any more of these. Good luck to you.
Poor Man's Ann Rice Mar 06, 2010 This was the first novel that I have read by Sherrylin Kenyon. I thought it was sloppy overall. The second half of the book, after Acheron's "death", was a random mishmash of non-sense plots. The whole concept of Kenyon's creatures, their powers, their weaknesses, makes absolutely no sense even for a fantasy novel. Her understanding of the human condition, how people relate to each other, seems immature and boring. Perhaps her other novels are more interesting, but after reading Acheron I have no desire to purchase any more of her work.
Disappointed a bit Mar 04, 2010 Finally readers of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series are rewarded with Acheron's story. Long awaited by fans, including me, I couldn't wait to see how it turned out.
The first part of the book deals with his past and childhood. It's not an easy read but it explains everything and is well written.
Unfortunately, the second half of the book was not as captivating for me. When we move into present day and the story focuses on the romance, it shifts tone completely and becomes more of an airy, light read typical of the genre. I found it hard to believe Acheron overcame his objection to love so quickly and felt like Tory was a bit too accepting of him when revealed.
The plot was good and moved well, and the characters were compelling as always. I think my main problem was the shift in tone.
In the end, I was satisfied with Acheron's story and look forward to Kenyon continuing the series.
loving this book Mar 03, 2010 i thought the beginning was depressing but also wanderful at the same time. you actually see why ash is so withdrwn from the world when hes older and what truelly happened between him and artimis. you learn so much of his life even though it was bad. and that through all the pain he still manages to love again and finds a wander full woman
