4Omarion - 21  Jun 24, 2008
With O's first album, he left you with the feeling that he has so much more to offer. With 21, he brings forth a much stronger effort, and really channels his inner Michael Jackson. Now im not saying that he is MJ, im simply sayin that you can see that he was trying to create a more dance record instead of trying to shake that pop mold that he had with his first album. And he really gets alot more personal on this album. On his first album, you could tell that he was just making an album full of pop hits, and songs that could possibly shake his boy band image. Now with this album he emerges more mature and much more sophisticated. Instead of doing songs like "Touch" where he pretty much says i just want sex, he does songs like "Just That Sexy" where he sings about the womens sexiness instead of just saying i wanna have sex with you. "Just That Sexy" is the perfect example of his maturity level going up. Not only in what he is saying, but also in the way the song sounds with its steaming hot production from the Underdogs and its booming bass, and he even sounds more convincing. And thats one area where O needed improvement. He has never been a really good singer, and that unfortunetly showed on O, but on 21 he really uses his voice alot better. And then on timeless classics like "Ice Box" he really goes all out. "Ice Box" is an amazing song. Its production alone makes it worth listening to. Its so dark, and yet, because of Omarions rough vocals, it really paints a good picture of the message the song is trying to deliver. And then on sexy club songs like "Beg For It" he shows he still has that dance club vibe to him with out losing that grown man feel on other songs to. Bottom line, on 21 he really shows his versatility. I would have never expected Omarion to do a song like "Made For TV" on his first album because that song is mature slow burning heartfelt ballad. And then he turns around and sings about a long nite with a jumpoff girl, while his girlfriend is at home sleeping on the synth happy roaring "Midnite". Overall this album is alot better than his previous, and it really shows how he has matured.

4Better Then I Expected  Apr 20, 2008
This was definitely better then i expected it to be. His first CD "O" was pretty good, though I found that i enjoy this one much better. The odd thing about that is that "O" has more songs that i like, but "21" still has my favor. I guess its that maturity that supposedly comes with age, and therefore is reflected in the music. I'll keep this straight to the point:

[Top 5 tracks]

Ice Box
Made For TV
Been With A Star
Just Cant Let You Go
What Are We Doing

[Honorable Mention]
Do It, Do It

Obviously, people's tastes will vary, so you may like some of the stuff that i thought was skipable, but overall this was a decent CD, and if your a big R&B fan, you may find yourself bumpin this one more often then you think.

3"Damn girl I'm trying"  Nov 30, 2007
"Icebox" says, "Damn girl I'm trying." With a listen to his second album, it's evident that Omarion is trying to separate himself from his competition mainly because of his production. Lyrically, this album speaks solely about women and love, but the problem with that is, all of the other male R&B artists speak of that repeatedly on their LPs, so he should have come with something more, or at least been more creative with his lyrics. Vocally, Omarion extended his voice as far as it could go, but he still fell short. His most developed talent is definitely not his singing or his songwriting; it's his dancing, by a long shot! The majority of the music here is mid temped, and most of the songs are mediocre at best.

The two lead singles, "Entourage" and "Ice box" are alright tracks. "Ice Box" is more creative by far; the production is something fresh for the ears of listeners and the lyrics exude innovation. I personally was impressed with how he compared his heart to an ice box. Omarion is off key a few times on "The Truth", but his overall vocals are strong. The track as a whole is pretty weak, though. "Electric" has a pretty nice beat. Omarion informs his listener that he cannot control his dancing feet when he hears this song. "Obsession", "Midnight" and the magnificent "Been With A Star" are the album highlights because they contain the most creative lyrics, have very listenable beats and the vocals don't disappoint. "Been With A Star" is my favorite because he is letting women know that although he is famous, he has the potential to be a faithful and loving paramour. Omarion channels his play brother Marques Houston on a few tracks, but I guess that's only natural since they spend so much time together.

This album is decent, but 2007 wasn't the best year for music, and unfortunately, this album is an example of that. I appreciate O's attempt to venture out and try new things, but he still has a lot to learn and a lot of growing up to do as far as his lyrics and vocals are concerned. "21" is geared toward a younger crowd, so I recommend this for folk age 13 to, hmmm, "21?"

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "Midnight"
2. "Been With A Star"
3. "Obsession"
4. "Just Can't Let You Go"
5. "Ice Box

3Good but could have been better  Sep 30, 2007
I am one of many huge Omarion fans and the album was alright, like when I heard it the only thing that made the album were the first two hit songs "Entourage and Icebox". They were already hits but, other than that, I didn't see any of the other songs becoming hits. Maybe, "What are We Doing, Just That Sexy, or Been With A Star." But, I think with some of the other songs on the album it seems like it was another "Touch" song. Like "Electric, Obsession, Just Can't Let You Go,Beg For It,and Do it" those were the ones that reminded me of "Touch". His first album was better. I think he would have been better off doing slow songs.

33-1/2 stars -- The evolution continues  Aug 22, 2007
When young R&B artists use the title of their albums as a reference to their having gotten older, it's supposed to reflect on their maturation as a singer when really the album contains one or two bumpable songs sandwiched between a bunch of filler (just ask Mario or Ciara). But Omarion's latest album 21 is just as good as his previous album.

Very rarely in the biz nowadays do you find an R&B album without a single guest star, but O holds his own throughout the album. Although "Entourage" is good, it really didn't get people rushing out to buy the album, but "Ice Box" fared much better, and it deserved to because it might be the best song on here. And the lyrics to "Just That Sexy" look clichéd on paper, but the song still works.

There aren't many ballads this time around, but "Midnight", one of the only ones, stands out. Also good are "Electric" and "Just Can't Let You Go". But things get a little shaky when certain producers come aboard. The obligatory Neptunes track "Obsession" is filler; and when O is joined by Timbaland, he hits ("Ice Box") and misses ("Beg For It").

I was still going to give this album four stars, but I had to knock it down to three-and-a-half due to the corny bridge found in the final track, "What Are We Doing". But 21 is still a worthy album that proves that Omarion just gets better with age.
